Haptic Technology and Virtual Reality in the context of Training for Hand Surgeons and Virtual Surgery

This PhD research project will develop and demonstrate an innovative human factors-led approach to adapt recent technical achievements in surgical simulation to hand surgery. The complexity of the hand and wrist currently limits wider adoption of surgical simulators. The aim is to show how (patient-specific) data from CT and MRI scans, in conjunction with biomechanical data can be used to generate interactive virtual models that are updated continuously in response to the surgeons’ actions.
